Full screen with Debian9 on Hyper-V VM

This must have occurred to you once after installing Debian in a virtual machine. Everything installed fine but then you get a small screen. If you check the display settings you will see that you only have one screen size to select…

Here’s how to change that:

Open a terminal in debian.

Now in the terminal type in the following:

It will ask:  [sudo] password for <yourusername>. If you haven’t add your username in the sudoers list it will reply with: <yourusername> is not in sudoers file, after you entered your password. You can continue as root user by typing su or add user to sudoers file.

Find the line with  GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT in this file.

Append video=hyperv_fb:<the resolution you want>, for example: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet video=hyperv_fb:1920x1080"

Write out to the file (save) with CTRL-O followed by enter. Then CTRL-X to exit Nano.

Then run

And finally

Still, you have only one option to choose, but it is the one you want to choose.
